Cracked Header Patch

How many times does this happen? It is the day before you ride and you find a nasty crack in your header pipe. You could just ignore it, but if you do, the crack may progress further resulting in a complete break. If that happens, your riding day is ruined. Your best option is to buy a new header, but on short notice, you can rig it temporarily until the new one arrives, assuming the manner of the crack will allow it.

To patch the crack, you will need a couple of automotive quality hose clamps and an aluminum can. Cut a piece of patch material from the can large enough to completely cover the crack. Round the corners of the patch so there will be no sharp edges sticking out. You can use a razor knife to cut open the can and a pair of scissors to cut the patch.

Fit the patch piece over the crack. Not only do you want to seal the crack, you also want it clamped tightly to help prevent the crack from growing. A good trick you can do before applying the patch is to drill a small hole (about 1/8" dia. or so, with a good quality drill bit) at each end of the crack. This trick relieves the stress at the ends of the crack, minimizing the possibility of it getting larger. The center of the drilled hole should be right at the end of the crack. Note: If the pipe is fractured so badly that each side of the crack moves around, you may not be able to drill holes.

Clamp the patch over the crack as accurately as you can, making sure the clamps are tight. This patch method may not work for every situation, but in this example, it worked great. I rode with this pipe several times with no further damage, then replaced it with a FMF header.

FMF Powerbomb Header - Titanium

FMF Powerbomb Header - Titanium. The redesigned PowerBomb is a four-stroke header that incorporates FMF's patented PowerBomb module at a precise location in the initial stage of the header. By positioning this "Bomb" at a key point in the system, increased performance and flow is achieved through the expansion and contraction of exhaust sonics through the system. Result is a flow increase of nearly 10%! The outer chamber in the PowerBomb allows the air to expand, cool and ramp back up at a higher velocity.Additionally, the PowerBomb is a "pre-muffler" of sorts which helps to lower the bike's sound output by providing more sound absorbing surface area for the sound medium (exhaust gases). On some models, choices can be between a moto or Supercross version. The Supercross version is designed for more low to mid-range power where the moto version is focused in the mid to upper RPM range.Increased performance and flow through the system.Allows the air to expand, cool and ramp back up at a higher velocity.Helps lower the sound output by providing more sound absorbing surface area for the sound medium.

FMF Powerbomb Header - Stainless Steel - Motocross

FMF Powerbomb Header - Stainless Steel. The FMF Powerbomb header is the result of countless hours of research and development on and off the track seeking to maximize power from the exhaust system. The unique design of the FMF Powerbomb header provides room for the expansion of the exhaust gases creating a 10% increase in exhaust flow. Translation: more power. The larger "bomb" section of the FMF Powerbomb header creates more surface area to increase sound dissipation and lowering the dbs. By decreasing the sound level, your bike will more easily meet the tight sound restrictions. The FMF Powerbomb header is constructed out of durable Stainless Steel.

FMF Megabomb Header - Titanium

FMF Megabomb Header - Titanium. The science behind the Megabomb header may be FMF's greatest engineering accomplishment to date. It can bolt on a Megabomb with an existing FMF slip on for as much as a 3 HP boost, plus the Megabomb actually reduces noises levels by as much as 1.5 dB. The Megabomb technology has evolved to produce more low end to mid range gains as well as broadening out the mid to top end power gains over stock. The Megabomb is best used for Motocross / Supercross and GNCC style trails. Used by Factory Teams, the Megabomb is the next level technology today.Produces long header torque and short header over-rev.Reduces sound output as much as 1.5 dB.Increases output from stock motor as much as 3 HP.Made from premium American Ti-Metal material.No. 1 Header in 2011 Supercross, Motocross, Motocross of Nations and Monster Energy Cup!

FMF Hi-Flo Header

FMF Hi-Flo Header. Excellent weight savings combined with performance habits that help make every 4-stroke excel. Designed to enhance low to mid rpm power, which increases tractability. Tuned for bottom to mid performance. Stainless steel for strength and light weight.
