Shock linkage animation

This image is animation of a modern dirt bike linkage type rear suspension. The linkage consists of a wishbone shaped link (sort of) and pull rods. The wishbone link anchors the lower shock mount to the swingarm by means of pivot joints, typically using needle bearings. The two pull rods (one on each side of the wishbone link) connect the wishbone to the frame of the motorcycle, also by means of needle bearing pivot joints.

This linkage design creates a progressive motion of the shock absorber when compression occurs. A progressive motion means that, as the shock is compressed, the further it is compressed the faster it is compressed. This progressive action improves bottoming resistance and helps to improve plushness over bumpy terrain.
